Updated Supplemental Round Draft Order

December 16, 2009 at 6:11 pm by under Atlanta Braves

Now that Rafael Soriano, Carl Pavano, and Rafael Betancourt accepted arbitration, we’ve cut the supplemental round down to a maximum of 21 selections:

# in Round Overall # Team Name For (Departed FA)
1 33 Houston Jose Valverde
2 34 Toronto Marco Scutaro
3 35 Atlanta Mike Gonzalez
4 36 St. Louis Matt Holliday
5 37 Toronto James Paxton*
6 38 Boston Jason Bay
7 39 Los Angeles Angels John Lackey
8 40 Boston Billy Wagner
9 41 Los Angeles Angels Chone Figgins
10 42 Oakland Justin Duchscherer
11 43 Toronto Rod Barajas
12 44 Tampa Bay Brian Shouse
13 45 Seattle Adrian Beltre
14 46 Detroit Brandon Lyon
15 47 Texas Marlon Byrd
16 48 St. Louis Mark DeRosa
17 49 Colorado Jason Marquis
18 50 Tampa Bay Gregg Zaun
19 51 Detroit Fernando Rodney
20 52 Texas Pudge Rodriguez
21 53 St. Louis Joel Pineiro

The teams in BOLD indicate the FA has already signed elsewhere.

Word is the Orioles are about to sign Mike Gonzalez.  In that case, the Braves’ compensation pick from the Orioles will be somewhere between number 43 and 56, depending on how many of the remaining 13 compensated FA’s sign with new teams.  The Braves also receive pick number 35 (or 34 if Jose Valverde re-signs with the Astros, which is extremely unlikely) in the supplemental round.

So overall, the Braves looking at receiving pick number 35 and ~50 (conceivable that 6 FA’s will re-sign with their old team or won’t sign a MLB deal before next June.

They gave away pick number 20.

Fucking unbelievable, a team offers arbitration to two Type-A Free Agents and still comes out behind in the draft-pick game.

Of course, the Braves also picked up Jesse Chavez, who represents something like a 2nd round pick, I’d guess.

And they could be looking at coming out about even if they’d also offered arbitration to Adam LaRoche, so they’ve really got nobody to blame but theirselves (and Soriano’s dumb ass agent).
