  1. Ben Duronio says:

Realized a mistake I made about the Pirates and Snyder. He is owed $5.75m and the D’Backs are paying $3m of it. Point still stands though, just wanted to make that correction before anyone else did.

Hey, any clue as to when this will start appearing on Itunes? I know it’s dumb to complain about free stuff, but I listen to most of the podcasts I follow on my commute to work and it’s easiest to just grab them off of itunes.

Regardless, I’m sure I’ll enjoy listening to this episode.

Haven’t been reading the comments for a while, so someone else may have already been hitting this, but: Every time I see Heyward slide in head first, I lose my mind for a few seconds. After seeing the loss of Prado first-hand from a head first slide, and the public exposure of the Rangers losing Josh Hamilton that way, he’s doing it anyway? No one in the organization is telling him he has to stop? And now he has an unexplained shoulder problem. Jay: STOP IT!

Teheran: I’ve wondered if the Braves didn’t bring him up not just because it was his turn– they could have sat Minor earlier in the week, its not like they didn’t know from the rainout that this would be necessary. I’ve wondered if they didn’t want to put Teheran in a situation in which he was likely to fail, or be overwhelmed, to see how he handled it and let him get past that and build on it. Scar him up just a little. I think an early whipping is good for development.
And sure, wasn’t a whipping, but he’s clearly not ready yet. I think it must be a good thing to expose him first-hand to some of the ways in which he’s not ready.

    that is all.

Good podcast. A couple of thoughts:

    1) Peter’s volume was quite a bit lower than Ben’s or Kevin’s, which Ben’s probably being the loudest.
    2) Getting a lot better on transitions, the first transition from Ben’s into into the meat of the podcast made me cringe just a little. I’ll get over it.

Good podcast overall. My only real problem with it is that it’s only the 6th CACast. Keep ‘em coming!

  5. Mike says:

    Just a couple of thoughts…

What’s also frustrating is that Heyward tends to play through injuries without letting anyone know. It’s one thing to have heart and play through pain sometimes but if there’s nagging pain that is effecting your game, that is also hurting the team. Especially when you’re Jason Heyward.

Dan Uggla…man it’s been frustrating watching him so far. Let’s just hope for a guy that does have a history of bad starts and then figured in with a new environment, it’s just taking longer than normal to get going. On the bright side, he still smashes the ball when he gets a hold of it.

    Good stuff, guys.

  6. Nathan says:

Re: sliding head-first, I’ve actually read research from somewhere (Will Carroll, maybe?) that said as a matter of fact, time lost to injuries due to sliding head first are about even with time lost to injuries due to sliding feet first. Now, you get more minor injuries sliding head first, but when you are injured sliding feet first they tend to be more serious, such that it actually evens out.

  7. Ben Duronio says:

It depends on what base it is. At second base while breaking up a double play you always slide feet first, which leaves your head open for injury ala Ryan Church.

  8. Mike Lee says:

Didn’t Prado’s broken finger injury last season happen while diving home at the plate? In Cinci, maybe? There’s definitely a few moments of uneasiness after a head-first slide from any of the main guys.

  9. Jake says:

What’s interesting about Heywards injuriy issues is that they always come up during a slump. Chick or egg?

Christian Martinez is mowing as I write this.
