Beachy induced 10 fly balls, eight ground balls and five line drives, according to FanGraphs. He struck out two with no walks over seven innings. Another deep outing with a solid pitch count for Beachy.

    Ty Wigginton….

Bad night for Venters to poop his pants.

Also Bourn has a career 64/100 wRC+ versus LHP and RHP respectively which is even more pronounced this year. I would not be opposed to partially platooning him against tough lefties such as Hamels. Unfortunately there is currently no one on the roster who could do that.

  2. shred the gnar says:

After typing that I realized that we don’t have a backup CFer… who would take over if Bourn were to get hurt? Heyward? Cant be without a backup catcher for one or two innings but can play the only CFer on the roster everyday with no one to back him up in case he gets hurt. Right. Got it.

    • David Lee says:

I think the Braves value Jason Heyward pretty highly in that regard. They played him in center quite often during spring training and seemed pretty pleased. I don’t think they would hesitate to put him there if needed.

What’s up with this graph? Where is the Braves second run?

    Fangraphs score fail

  5. Dominican says:

I’m too lazy to look it up, but we must be at the bottom of the pile with RISP. Also a disturbing stat they posted during the game… .168 with bases loaded, yikes!

  6. Tim says:

I am to my wits ends with the Braves not being able to beat the Phillies. I literally don’t know how much more of this I can take. 0-8 in the last 8 games against the Phillies and 7-18 in the last 25 against the Phillies. It’s gotten to the point where I don’t even hope to beat the Phillies anymore. That’s why I don’t expect the Braves to even have a chance of winning the NL East anymore and that’s why I believe the Braves chances of winning a WC spot are very, very slim. All because we just cannot beat the Phillies.

    • Phillip in Austin says:

Im with Tim. I just have no hope going against the Phillies. I know our players don’t feel that way, but as a fan it sucks.

  7. Danish says:

Tim, for the love of god I’ve been saying it since the first game of the year. You are the most reactionary person on the planet, you go from oh crap they’re gonna 0-162 to yay 158-4 and now they all of a sudden can’t win the division, I’m pretty sure two days earlier you probably stated world series champions. At this point I figure you have to be just trolling the site and its better not to feed a troll so I’m done preaching on the topic of not being reactionary and letting the season work its way out. Lets not let SSS that fit your specific argument rule the day anymore.

    • Ryan W. says:

Everyone says “don’t feed the troll”, and even if you’re successful in not doing it someone out there will still feed him. So, that being said, why not just have fun with it? Point out his idiocy for your amusement, make him look foolish, and enjoy. Some of the funniest things I’ve read have been comebacks off of something a troll said.

    • Tim says:

So I’m a troll because I posted my true feelings? Where did I ever post the Braves were going to win the division? I don’t think you can find that post because I never made it. In fact I don’t think you will even find a post where I stated that the Braves were even a lock to make the playoffs let alone win the division. I dare you to find any post I’ve made that even implies that I’ve gotten too high on the Braves because I haven’t. I refuse to feel the way I did last season when I thought there was no way on this planet the Braves would miss the playoffs and then they did and I felt worst than I could have ever felt about any other year the Braves didn’t make the playoffs. Sorry if that means that I am a troll.

      • Samantha says:

Maybe I am a troll or maybe not. I am just tired of hearing how good the brave pitching is. It does not matter. When you only score 2 runs, you lose. No matter who pitcher is.

    • Samantha says:

      Face it Tim is CORRECT!!!

  8. Dray says:

What happened to Brian McCann’s home run?

  9. Yehuda Hamer says:

Venters is not perfect and I am very okay with that.

    • David says:

In all honesty Venters was fine. The double was only a double b/c it was so poorly hit. Next, bloop single, wild pitch strikeout, infield hit off Venter’s foot… Sometimes the ball just doesn’t bounce the right way.

      • Joeshark says:

even with Venters leaving a couple pitches up in the zone, we still saw almost no solid contact, so yeah,it sucks to lose that way, but that was some crappy luck.

        • Samantha says:

If Braves score enough runs early, they dont have to worry about Venters. SCORE 4 RUNS BY 5TH INNING NOW!!!

      • Gay_4_Jhey says:

And because Diaz is slow and has a weak arm.

  10. Heathbar09 says:

    Damn, shoulda brought in Durbin.

  11. Kieran says:

What’s up with Fangraphs? Game was tied at two into the eighth.

  12. Wes Jorja says:

I haven’t been able to watch a game yet. I have been keeping track of Simmons and see he is batting very well in Mississippi. If he were the ss for Atlanta would his defense actually have made a difference for the Braves so far.

    • Wes Jorja says:

I meant to put a ? at the end. Would Simmons have caught any of the seeing eye singles?

      • Tim says:

I didn’t get to watch the game except for the last inning but from all the highlights I saw all these hits were hit to the right side where for some reason Uggla was positioned so close to the 2nd base bag and it seemed all the Phillies right-handed batters just reached out and poked them through the hole on right side. I don’t understand why the Braves used that defensive positioning.

        • Mike says:

I guess they expect Pence to pull but if you watch the game Pence was late on almost every fastball he saw(maybe trying to shoot that hole?). That being said though that shift killed Atlanta not once but twice. With Pence. I know both times the runner was going but on a fastball against a RHB the SS typically covers cause it is more likely to be hit to the opposite field. However due to Uggla being closer he clearly covers everytime. It hurt us a lot last night.

        • Tim says:

I guess the Braves didn’t learn from what happened in game 162 last season. Remember how we lost that game? Pence hit a ball to the right side that Dan Uggla couldn’t get too in time and it turned into an infield hit that scored the game-winning run. You’re suppose to learn from your mistakes. The Braves haven’t when it comes to Hunter Pence.

  13. BrianB says:

The Phillies defined the old saying of “seeing eye singles” last night, although one was a double by Mayberry. Well pitched game by both teams, Phillies just seemed to get all the dinkers to drop in for hits.

  14. Mike says:

I have a question. Hunter Pence was late on almost every fastball last night. Including those thrown by Beachy. It seems like the Atlanta infield was playing him to pull all night. If that is the case why continue to throw fastballs or why when you have a harder thrower in do you continue to put in that shift. Just my 2 cents. I thought Atlanta may have been able to comeback from 1 down but that second was just crippling. He also got that type of hit TWICE! I swear if I see that shift to night I will fly to Atlanta and kill Fredi.

  15. Wes Jorja says:

update on Gattis. First game 2 rbi’s catching. Today left field and has his first outfield assist. Simmons batting .333 in 83 ab’s with 6 sb’s, 8 bb’s and only 9 k’s

    • Mike says:

Good to see both of them doing well. As far as Gattis I still do not know. The guy has some ability with the bat and is a feel good story but like Law I really do not view him as a prospect at his age. Albeit he does maybe have 1 or 2 years more on catchers at a similar age given his later start. As far as Simmons. It is really good to see his bat continuing to develop.
