The Braves offense was non-existent as Cliff Lee dominated over seven shutout innings, giving up a grand total of two line drives with 11 ground balls and eight fly balls. Despite Lee handling left-handed batters better than righties, three of the Braves’ five hits against him were by lefties, including two singles from Freddie Freeman.
The lone Braves run came on a home run by Martin Prado after Lee departed.
Tim Hudson responded to one of his best outings of the season with one of his worst, allowing five runs on nine hits in only five innings of work. Hudson still induced 13 ground balls to only three line drives, and he suffered some from two infield hits and a .400 BABIP. However, he gave up two extra base hits that resulted in runs, and he also walked in a run.

The offense makes my head hurt.
At this point, shouldn’t we just make Brian McCann the best back up catcher in all of baseball? From where I sat I’m pretty sure Brino left 5 men on base with weak pop ups, 3 of which were in scoring position. Consistently getting enough base runners to make any damage with 2 outs and unable to convert any runs has been the bane of our existence. Still I truly believe this team turns a corner when Simmons returns to the line up, and this patch is exactly like the horrible one we had in late May before the amazing run in June/ July…
