It’s hard to win when you don’t score.

Could be ATL v PHI in the wild card game.
Hit me up when there’s more than a 3% chance of that happening.
I’m “hitting you up”, as it’s up to 5.5%.
The Phillies are dead!*
*(I just wish they were a wee bit deader.)
To see their potential and watch it being unrealized is so hard to watch.
I think it’s much harder to see Fredi actually make a smart decision and get our hopes up that he might have some sense and see that all go down the drain during back to back losses. How frustrating to see Hudson load the bases and yet Fredi still sticks with him rather than bringing in almost anyone.
Hindsight is 20/20 but a brain will win you a championship.
Seems like we keep running into the hottest teams in the league at the worst time of year.
So i dunno if you were watching the game, but Huddy wasn’t responsible for that score. Dan Uggla’s shitty defense is! Uggla threw the ball to the 3B side of Simmons while simmons was moving toward RF. Simmons had to stop his momentum and all he got on the throw to 1B was his arm. No leg, little if any upper body rotation. Just arm.
If Uggla would quit working out so damned much, maybe he wouldn’t screw up so badly on defense lol.
Uggla is responsible for not getting out of that inning. If Uggla’s not hitting…which he’s really not these days….then he represents little value to the team. I know I know, trolls….”Uggla’s got a good OBP.” Unfortunately, if I’m paying a guy $10M a year who can’t play a lick of defense, he’s got to knock the cover off of the ball. Anything less than that calls into question his value as a starter.
Tim Hudson’s personal hell would be Dan Uggla and Dan Uggla clones playing every infield position.
UZR says he’s having a pretty good year on defense. and you can complain about not turning a double play all you want, but the fact of the matter is Huddy gave up too many hits and fredi made poor choices on who to bring in during a high leverage situation (again)
I really don’t think leaving in Hudson was a bad idea. Who in the bullpen gives you a better chance of getting a ground ball than Hudson? He even got the ground ball, and Dan semi messed it up. Tough play regardless with that much speed, but it should have been turned for a double play. Also, Ramirez could have/should have been called out at first to begin the inning. Simmons worked his ass off during that inning.
Good thing we don’t face their best pitcher tonight or anything.
I dunno, there’s this guy in the bullpen named Craig Kimbrel that doesnt allow many hits, has a pretty high strikeout rate and doesnt walk too many.
In the 7th inning already down 1? I don’t think any manager in the league would bring in Kimbrel in that situation.
Doesnt make it the wrong choice.
It’s tough to advocate a scenario that has -500% chance of ever happening ever on any time.
Yeah. Trust me, I hate Fredi as much as the next guy. But it’s not fair to bash him for something he was praised for two days ago.
To reiterate, I hate Fredi Gonzalez.
Since August 12 (30 games), the Braves have scored 3 runs or less 17 times.
A few weeks ago we were facing SD (iirc) and I tweeted DOB (I know…) and wrote “Ever feel like the Braves advanced scouts are not that good? Years of inadequacy against new/young pitchers.” His response was something along the lines of “we don’t send scouts to minor league teams in advance”. Makes a lot of sense with how poorly we do against pitchers we’ve never seen before. We can light up Halladay and Strasburg but effing Drew Pomeranz and Senor Estrada make us look like little leagues.
On the bright side of that, betting against the Braves when a new pitcher is on the mound is about as close to a sure bet in Vegas as you will get..
Well, any optimism I had left about chasing down the division after our little 5 game winning spurt has been thoroughly shot in the ass. :/
See! They did it again! Every time we see a sliver of an opportunity, it is gone within 2 days.
Goddamn gNats! Where’s a flyswatter?
Yep, you were right. I thought the offensive encouragement might’ve been an apparition, but I didn’t expect to get held to 1 run in 2 games by 2 no-name starters. Unfamiliar pitchers aside, that’s bad even for us.
Not to be a Debbie Downer, but it feels that even if the Braves had a perfect game thrown against them that would’ve been a better offensive performance than last night. Ugh, what an ugly game.
Anyone know what kind of pitches Gus Scholsser throws?
According to the braves lineup, “best pitches, ever.”
I think Borne must get going. in the last 30 games he is hitting .223 and has stuck out the most of any Brave hitter. Borne is losing millions finishing this way
Maybe he is playing this way so we can afford him next year… that is a team player! lol
haha
I’m curious about an idea that I’ve had for a while on the team approach to a pitching staff. Setting aside the pay for statistics how about organizing next year’s Braves staff like this: Mylan, Gearrin, Durbin as the “Starting” pitchers limited to 40 pitch max. Each would pitch every third day at the beginning of the game. That should carry into inning four where the “Main” pitcher would take over. These would be Hudson, Medlin, Maholm, and Minor. These would pitch inning four to inning eight or so. They would be limited to 75 or 80 pitches. After inning eight the “Bullpen” pitchers would be available to pitch the ninth + innings. These would be Kimbrel, O’Flaherty, Venters, Martinez, and Durbin. I know I’ll get flamed for this but it fixes what the Rockies are trying to do with a lesser staff.
that is the ole John Clarkson strategy at whatifsports when I used to frequent that site.
I dont know who i pick for playoff rotation other than medlen and huddy, maybe minor, but the rest of our starters are hit or miss, often solid but huge blowouts.
**GROAN**
5 game winning streak against non-playoff contenders followed by a 3 game losing streak against a playoff hopeful going into a series with the arguably best team in baseball. God, we’re awesome!
*IF* we make the playoffs, we will either:
A. Lose the first game 7-1. Make 3 errors. Only 4 hits, 1 is a Heyward HR.
OR
B. Sweep through all rounds and win the World Series in 4 games.
Based on our play, those are the only 2 options.
The Phillies are 3 games out of the woeful Cardinals, and all the teams ahead of the Brewers and Phils have played TERRIBLY with the exception of Medlen / Minor / lucky rabbit’s foot / errors. If we play the Phillies in a one game playoff, do you think Hamels or Lee will be the pitcher to shut us down? Or the Brewers could put any of those middle/back of the rotation guys that they have. The only way we actually do make it to the one game series is because St Louis, Los Angeles, and Pittsburgh are wonderfully inept.
Pretty sure that any of the kids from The Sandlot could go seven strong against this Braves squad…
Lol yeah I was just about to say that if I were left handed I would bet on me throwing a shut-out against the Braves with my high 60s fastball.
I would SO MUCH rather have us completely collapse and miss the playoffs again rather than face the Brewers or Phillies in a one game series. At least then there would be an excellent chance of Fredi getting shitcanned.
I hate the Phillies.
That is all.
Bourn’s sad play down the stretch this year and last year is really making me not very upset about his impending departure.
