5 minutes in and my first thoughts were “happy hour podcast?”

  2. Rickon says:

    Props for the Taj intro.

  3. NickB says:

in batting helmets, Fat Juan is completely indistinguishable from Carlos Santana.

other fat players: Mo Vaughn, Rich Garces and of course, Terry Forster!!!

  4. Harris says:

Best podcast ever. My analysis is Franklin slowly lost his professional podcast voice he always seems to be trying really hard to do.

  5. Michael says:

“Or we could make Porcello our closer……. *silence*……. Yeah”

In the future, I would ensure all podcast participants are provided with a fifth of whiskey. In fact, you might want to pursue sponsorship at this point.

I really do not think Espinosa is clearly better than Uggla. The thing is Espinosa is on the correct end of the age curve that is it. Uggla has the better history. He is better at getting on base. Uggla also is a lot more of a power threat than Espinosa.

Even take into account wOBA. Uggla tops Espinosa the last 2 years, as well he also does in wRC. Espinosa a lot more of a liability with the bat than Uggla is. Even Espinosa tops Uggla each of the last 2 seasons in K%.

Some of what could have helped Uggla’s UZR last year as well was more shifts . Defensive shifts have really changed defensive measures. Even look at the Nats with Espinosa and Desmond. Espinosa a year ago was 1.0. Last year it jumped up to 13.0(Not completely clear because it is a rookie year vs a sophomore year) but to help look at Desmond. His first three years he was -3.0, -8.8, -5.4. Then last year he shot up to 4.8.

I am not saying Uggla is a good defender but if he places him self correctly he clearly is a lot better.

Franklin: I admire you for having your @fjrabon and @drunkfjrabon accounts all rolled into one. Well played, sir.

If Walden is ready for opening day and Gearrin wins the final bullpen spot, will Varvaro be worth anything in a trade? I have such a hard time evaluating the trade value of relief pitchers. I can’t imagine that he would clear waivers, but would he be appealing enough to some time to land a LH bench bat?

  10. Charlie says:

Assuming the Braves also realize that Chris Johnson’s defense is bad at 3B, do you guys think we’re headed towards Francisco being the everyday third baseman, or do you think he’ll still be in a platoon with Chris Johnson? I’m really (and perhaps unrealistically) optimistic about what Juan Francisco can do if given the opportunity to start on a regular basis.

    • Mark Smith says:

I mean, he’s never been good at third, and he’s still found a way to be somewhat valuable. But he’s 28, and his defense is only going to get worse. We’ll see, but if they go with him, it will be with the belief that his offense will outweigh the poor defense.

    that supposed podcast was sophomoric…

    on and on…

not remotely funny once you realized what was what…

if you write pretentiously – and you do, to good effect – you simply detract from the weight of your words with this childishness…

    it was an excruciating bore…
