Is the Upcoming Series a “Must-Win”?

Wednesday, August 12th, 2009

People ask me all the time if this game is a “must-win”?  Or if this series is a “must-win”?  It’s usually a very idiotic question, of course, because it’s not like this is the one game or this is the one series that if you don’t win, you have no chance of making the playoffs.  [...]

Javier Vazquez: Strikeout King.

Thursday, June 11th, 2009

Today Javier Vazquez became the first NL pitcher to reach 100 strikeouts and the 2nd pitcher in MLB to do so (the first was Justin Verlander).  It took both of them only 13 starts to accomplish the feat, Verlander has struck out 106 in his 13 starts.  There are only 2 other pitchers in MLB [...]

Monday, May 11th, 2009

I watch a lot of baseball.  I’m in college, so I don’t have any sort of structured schedule other than class, which is usually less than 20 hour s a week.  I subscribe to MLB.tv, and my favorite thing to do when I’m not busy is to watch games on mlb.tv.  I mainly want to [...]

Series Thoughts: Marlins / Series Preview: Philthies

Thursday, May 7th, 2009

Break out the brooms.  Well, not really.  We did take both of the games, but sweeping a 2-game series is hardly broom-worthy.  Especially against the Marlins’ (who are currently in a 4 for 17 skid) 2 worst starters.  In the first game, we scored 8 runs off Florida’s Andrew Miller replacement, Graham Taylor, then failed [...]

Series Thoughts: Cardinals / Series Preview: Astros

Thursday, April 30th, 2009

I predicted 1 out of 3 in that series, but I didn’t expect it to happen in that fashion.  We didn’t win when 2 of our best pitchers went, but we won when Jo Jo Reyes pitched.  Go figure. In the first game we made a bunch of stupid mistakes, stranded a bunch of runners, [...]

Explaining the Unexplainable

Wednesday, April 29th, 2009

21.2 IP, 24 H, 20 R, 17 ER (7.06 ERA), 11 BB, 18 K, 5 HR. No, that isn’t one of Chuck James’ Grapefruit League lines, it’s Kenshin Kawakami’s line through 4 starts. And it’s ugly. The things that jump out at me in the line are the 11 BB’s and 5 HR. That tells [...]
