Braves 2009 Season In Review
Thursday, October 8th, 2009This is going to be a very lengthy post. It will involve a lot of statistical analysis and will attempt to determine what the Braves did well, what they did badly, what they need to change, and generally how they got to where they are. While the purpose of this post is to examine the [...]
Our Record When He Starts
Saturday, July 4th, 2009Name: record (ERA) Vazquez: 7-10 (3.05 ERA) Lowe: 9-8 (4.44 ERA) Kawakami: 7-8 (4.46 ERA) Hanson: 5-1 (2.25 ERA) Jurrjens: 8-9 (2.73 ERA) Medlen: 1-2 (6.28 ERA) Reyes: 1-3 (6.58 ERA) Unacceptable. Especially when Vazquez and Jurrjens pitch. No way we should have a losing record when those two pitch.
That’s a 10.
Thursday, June 4th, 2009Most of the time when you hear about a trade you’ve already heard that it’s likely to happen. You’ll hear that “x player is being shopped” or “x team has had discussions with y team about z player”. You hear rumors anywhere from a month in advance to a day in advance, and most educated [...]
A Few Tidbits
Tuesday, May 19th, 2009Just a few tidbits of news. The Braves have called up Kris Medlen and will place them on their active roster on Thursday to take Jo Jo Reyes’s spot in the rotation. Reyes will transition to the bullpen for now, and the Braves will make a decision regarding the pitching staff before Medlen is made [...]
Series Thoughts: Mutts / Series Preview: Diamondbacks
Thursday, May 14th, 2009A win that put us on cloud 9, a loss that put us in the trenches, and another win that put us right back where we started. That’s what happened. Here’s how it went down. In the first game, Santana vs. Lowe, neither pitcher was particularly brilliant. Santana pitched 6 and 1/3 innings of 1-run [...]
Series Thoughts: Philthies / Series Preview: Mutts
Monday, May 11th, 2009Again we win a series in Philly, although we didn’t play as well as we did in the first series. We lost the first game behind Reyes’s terrible outing. He gave up 8 runs (only 4 were earned because of 2 errors in 1 inning, 1 by Escobar and 1 by Reyes, both on routine [...]
Series Thoughts: Marlins / Series Preview: Philthies
Thursday, May 7th, 2009Break out the brooms. Well, not really. We did take both of the games, but sweeping a 2-game series is hardly broom-worthy. Especially against the Marlins’ (who are currently in a 4 for 17 skid) 2 worst starters. In the first game, we scored 8 runs off Florida’s Andrew Miller replacement, Graham Taylor, then failed [...]
